Blogging to Help With Your Ranking

So this week we’re going to talk about blogging. It is the fourth part in my “Crush Your Local SEO” series. The previous video in the series, “Create Localized Content” touched on the importance of creating localized content and how it would help you target customers in your geographic area. This week I’m going to talk about blogging to help increase your keyword density.

What is Local SEO and how does it vary from normal SEO?

For those of you who don’t know, SEO, or Search Engine Optimization is the process of setting up and maintaining your website in such a way that you are easily found in Search Rankings. I’ve started this series to focus on things you can do to improve your SEO, but especially your Local SEO, which is a niche of SEO that focuses on your appearance within a certain geographical area.

Content is King

There are many things that have changed over the years. In fact, a ton has changed in the 14 years since I founded SND Designs. One thing that hasn’t changed though is the old saying, “Content is King.” One of the easiest, and best things you can do for your business is start a blog on your website. Posting regularly on topics relevant to your business will help you increase your search ranking.

You may ask why? The reason is, Google rewards keyword density. Now when we say keyword density we’re not talking about just spamming a bunch of keywords in there. That will have the opposite effect. But what we are talking about is having a ton of relevant, well written content that all focuses around a keyword and its LSI keywords. Increasing your keyword density, in a healthy, coherent way, will give Google plenty of content to crawl and will help establish your authority on a subject. Done correctly, it will help you increase your search ranking.

The ideal blog length would tend to be between 500 – 750 words. As far as frequency goes, I would say whatever works best for your business. If you can, once or twice per week would be great. If you are an incredibly busy small business owner, like a lot of us are. Then blogging a few times per month, or even once per month will work. The point is, any amount of blogging will help, so do what you have time to do. Just keep in mind that the more often you blog, the more good it will do. But even if you only blog once a month, something is better than nothing. Turning out high quality once per month will do wonders compared to not doing it at all.

A bonus tip would be to record a video of the blog post and embed it within the blog post. This has been shown to get a better reaction from Google.

So in summary, creating short, informative blogs, focused on your keywords will help build up your search ranking, by growing your domain authority in the eyes of Google. And you also have the bonus of it building your authority in the eyes of your potential clients. As always, if you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
