I was asked to do a site for Dish, a wonderful southern comfort food restaurant that is a mainstay in the popular Plaza Midwood area of Charlotte. Dish has also been featured on Food Network’s “Diners, Drive Ins and Dives” so I knew I couldn’t slouch it. However at the request of management they wanted to three things; the site had to be a simple design, it had to reflect the atmosphere of the restaurant and the menu had to be content management so they could change menu items whenever the mood struck them. After sitting in the restaurant and soaking in the ambience I decided to create a site that reflected the “old timey southern” feel of the restaurant and came up with the charming design you see above. The site is completely html and css with an online content manager used for the menu and all the graphics with the exception of the Dish logo were all made in house. I will say this site is best viewed in Safari, Google Chrome or Firefox. It loses the rounded corners on the boxes and the shadows on the boxes when viewed in Internet Explorer due to the fact that IE doesn’t support some of the css I used to achieve these effects. Oh well, perhaps someday IE will catch up with the rest of the browsers…. Needless to say this job resulted in a really happy client and a free dessert for me and my wife!!
