1163909_80979652A great man once said “if you have enemies that’s good, it means you took a stand for something.” However what I’ve learned over the years is that you don’t need to take a stand to acquire an enemy. We’re all born with one. I’ll give you a clue, you face him or her in the mirror every morning when you’re brushing your teeth.

That’s right, out of all the people you run into on a daily basis the one who has the most potential to do damage is actually yourself. Through our words and actions we can hurt any progress we’ve made in life and in our business. I’ve come to terms with this enemy every time I go to the gym. As I workout there is occasionally that voice in the back of my head saying ” This is hard, let’s just do half the reps today. Let’s lower the weight. This is too hard.” There are even voices that you would think we’re a good side, worrying about our daily work schedule. That voice goes “We don’t have time for this! Cut it short or we won’t make our deadline! We’re gonna be too tired to get anything done!” Both of these negative voices are a danger to all of us. Luckily I ignore them but I admit it’s hard. Especially the ones that have to do with my work schedule. But you see if you properly schedule your day, it’s important to have both times of rest and work, recreation and rest so it shouldn’t be a problem.

You see our own self doubts and fear of success can lead us to procrastinate and put off decisions that cause us to not live up to our potential.  I’m as bad about it as anyone. I finally got around to typing this blog and realized it had been two months since my last post. Now while it’s true I have been pretty busy, I haven’t spent every waking hour working and it’s my own fault that it took me so long to post again. But it is easy to put stuff off and hide behind the “busy” excuse. But that’s another story. For the time being, the point is that the only person that can control your destiny and your happiness is you. If you aren’t happy in a situation in your life, you are the only person who can do anything about it. You are the only person who can overcome the negativity in your life and put yourself in a frame of mind that will ultimately lead you to happiness.

Now some would tell you to make a list and start doing stuff but I’m against that as well. List are a great procrastination tool. You put everything on one list, get overwhelmed by it and immediately start putting stuff off. Instead if you have things you’ve always wanted to do or have been putting off, things that would help you or your business move forward, I suggest you get up tomorrow and start doing them. Don’t make a list, just pick something and move forward on it. Once you get momentum built up the rest will fall in place.

Periodically I intend to re visit this topic, talking about different ways we sabotage ourselves and our happiness. For now I hope you get inspired and get out there and move forward. With any luck, you’ll find success was much easier to accomplish than you thought!

Talk to you next time!
